House Fire on Hazel Blakeney Rd.

posted on

At 6:45 AM on Friday November 28, 2014 High Point Fire District responded with four engines, a tanker, and a ladder truck to a report of a structure fire at 398 Hazel Blakeney RD. While responding, Chief Wendell Johnson observed a large column of smoke and requested an additional engine and personnel from the Pageland Fire Department. Firefighters arrived to find a single story home heavily involved in fire. Firefighters deployed a hose line and began attacking the fire which had extended into the attic and through the roof. Realizing that the home could not be saved firefighters concentrated their initial efforts on protecting a car that was parked in the car port as well as cooling the homes propane tank. Pageland Fire Department’s engine was used to pump water 200 feet up the driveway from a portable water tank known as a drop tank which was set up on Hazel Blakeney Rd. A water shuttle operation was set up to bring in water from a hydrant over a mile from the fire. Over 10,000 gallons of water was used to fight the fire. The fire was discovered after a neighbor was alerted by a barking dog.  No one was at home when the fire started and no injuries were reported.
