April 15, 2014, 10:55 am, High Point Fire District and Sand Hills Fire Department responded to a report of an industrial machine fire at the Circle S Ranch wood chip facility located at 1201 Sims Road. First arriving responders found a 30 foot tall wood chip dryer with burning wood chips packed into it’s exit chute. Firefighters set up a water supply with a portable water tank and used tankers to shuttle water from a hydrant located at Sims Road and Highway 151. Once everything was in place the facility operators began allowing the burning wood chips to pour from the chute onto the ground where firefighters would extinguish them. The wet chips were then pushed out of the way with a bobcat loader and the process was repeated until the chute was empty. It took firefighters and facility operators one and half hours to complete the operation. Fire damage was contained to the exit chute machinery. The storage facility and dryer remained undamaged.
