At 1:07 PM, January 23rd, 2014 firefighters from High Point Fire District responded to a report of a grass fire endangering a structure and vehicle at 143 Baxter Huggins Rd. near Pageland. Firefighters arrived to find fire consuming approximately an acre of grass and a large pile of pine straw. Using a brush truck and engine firefighters were able to bring the fire under control before any structure or vehicles were damaged. The fire appears to have been started by embers from a fire pit.
