At 12:16 PM, Monday, January 20, 2014 High Point Fire District responded with 2 engines and 3 brush trucks to a report of a grass and woods fire at 5292 White Plains Church Rd. near Pageland SC. Firefighters arrived to find a fire line extending around two acres of grass and wood land behind a home, with fire advancing through the woods. Using all three brush trucks, firefighters were able to quickly halt the fires advance.  Due to wind direction and low humidity, the South Carolina Forestry Commission was notified and responded with a dozer to cut a break around the fire. The cause of the fire was undetermined but the property owner believes it was caused by neighbors throwing down cigarette butts as they walk through the area.
